What is it?
The motherboard is the go between of all the devices. It contains connectors to power devices and helps them work together.
Popular brands and their prices
Many brands make motherboards with a wide range of features but the most popular are:
Other things to consider
There are lots of things to consider when choosing a motherboard to ensure compatibility.
First
is size. There are three main sizes, ATX which is the standard size, mini-ATX which is smaller than a standard
ATX
board and E-ATX which stands for extended ATX and is a little bigger than standard. You must ensure that your
motherboard fits in your case.
Next, you must check that the motherboard has the right chipset for your CPU. If
you have an AMD CPU, you much check if your motherboard is AM4 or AM5. AM4 chips will not fit in AM5 sockets and
vice versa. Also, you want to check your ram compatibility. There are two main ram types, DDR4 and DDR5. The pin
layout changes between the two types of ram so they are not interchangeable on the motherboard. Finally, you
want
to check the features. If you need Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, make sure you get a board that supports both of those, so
you don't have to get external adapters.
