Baseball is a popular sport that involves two teams, each consisting of nine players. It is typically played on a diamond-shaped field with four bases, where one team bats and the other team plays defense. The game is known for its complex set of rules and its rich history in American and global culture.

Some basic rules:
The goal for a team is the score more runs than the opposing team. A score is when a player reaches home plate after touching the other 3 bases. The game is divided into nine innings with eavh team having a turn to bat and a turn to field in each inning.
The way to end the other teams turn is to strike them out at bat. A strike occurs when the batter swings and misses, a ball passes through the strike zone, the batter gets taged out before reaching a base or the fielder with the ball touches the bag when that is the only bag the batter can get to, the last way is for the fielder to catch the ball the batter hit which counts as an automatic out.

The origins of baseball are somewhat debated, but it is widely believed to have evolved from various bat-and-ball games played in England during the 17th and 18th centuries. One of the most well-known predecessors is a game called "rounders," which was similar in structure. Baseball, as we know it today, is credited to have developed in North America during the 19th century. A common myth suggests that baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839, but historical evidence does not support this. Instead, baseball’s origins are tied to a combination of games played in Europe, especially in England, and its adaptation in the United States. In 1845, Alexander Cartwright, a member of the Knickerbocker Baseball Club in New York, helped formalize some of the modern rules of the game, such as the diamond-shaped field and the bases being 90 feet apart. The game continued to evolve, and by 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first professional baseball team.
